CAF, AAHM TO HOST MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY AND FLYOVER

MIDLAND, Texas (May 27, 2004) – The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) and the American Airpower Heritage Museum (AAHM) will host a Memorial Day ceremony and flyover as part of the 2004 Seminar Series “A Remembrance of War.” The ceremony will begin at noon, on Monday, May 31, 2004, in the Memorial Garden located at CAF Headquarters at Midland International Airport.

Special guest speaker at the ceremony will be CAF Col Dean Leyerly, a World War II veteran and former POW. Other special guests include Medal of Honor recipients, George O’Brien and Fred Ferguson. O’Brien, from Midland, was awarded the Medal of Honor for service in Korea, and Ferguson, from Chandler, Ariz., was awarded the Medal of Honor for service in Vietnam.

A proclamation from Governor Rick Perry will be read at the ceremony. Odessa Mayor Larry Melton is expected to be in attendance. The ceremony will conclude with a flyover of three World War II AT-6/SNJ advanced trainer aircraft.

Museum admission will be free on May 31 thanks to sponsorship by Warren Cat, Compressor Systems, Inc. and Bank of America. The Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 31, 2004, with the CAF High Sky Wing selling hamburgers following the ceremony.
